With the launch of Flipkart Global, Flipkart has enabled sellers on its marketplace to export globally. Sellers on Flipkart can now leverage the retail e-commerce export capabilities brought in by eBay India. Through Flipkart Global, international buyers from over 35 global eBay platforms will gain access to Flipkart’s vast product listings. In April 2017, Flipkart had announced that eBay India had joined the Flipkart Group.
Through the Flipkart Global program, Flipkart’s 100,000-plus sellers will have an opportunity to export their products to buyers in over 190 countries. The launch of this unique program, built to leverage the e-commerce export capacity of eBay India, has coincided with the ‘Month of Partners’ — a month dedicated to recognize and celebrate Flipkart’s partners, including its highly motivated seller community.
Flipkart Global unlocks access to the international market
The Flipkart Global program enables sellers across India to reach over 171 million active customers of eBay globally. This customer base includes buyers in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, and Australia. As a part of the launch, all 25,000 retail export sellers on eBay India will migrate to Flipkart Global. These sellers will list their products through this unique program and Flipkart will undertake a nationwide seller outreach program to educate and inform sellers about its advantages.
“India has immense export potential and there are many SMEs who have unique products but don’t know how to make them available to global buyers. With the launch of Flipkart Global, we’re removing traditional growth barriers and providing them a platform to reach out internationally and expand sales,” Anil Goteti, Head Marketplace at Flipkart and Head of eBay India, said at the launch.
He added, “Besides enabling trade, Flipkart Global will also help generate both direct and indirect employment opportunities, revive the fortunes of many artisans whose products are in great demand internationally. This will bring in much needed foreign exchange for the exchequer.”
The retail e-commerce export market in India is estimated to be worth around $2 billion by 2020 (according to an IIFT-FICCI study). Flipkart Global will empower Indian sellers to take advantage of this great opportunity. Flipkart Global will also be involved in providing necessary support such as shipping solutions, remittances, market trends and others, to its sellers.
